For readers who aren’t familiar with you and your music, can you share with us how you began your musical journey?

I’ve always been interested in music, I started writing songs as a kid. I’m self-taught….YouTube taught me how to play guitar.

What inspired you to want to start writing music? Do you have a time in mind when you just knew you had to write a song about it?

Brandy inspired me to start writing music. She is one of my favorite singers, Her melodies and harmonies are insane. There’s no specific time I can recall that inspired me to write a song – all of my music is inspired by whatever I’m experiencing at that moment.

Being from New Orleans, were you ever inspired by jazz roots embedded within that city’s culture?

Yes, I was influenced by jazz music and bounce music. I think it helped me with my overall cadences and my ear for chord changes and structure.

We love your new single “Slip“! Can you take us through what your process looked like from that tracks inception to its release?

Honestly, I was a little tipsy (lol) and I was playing guitar and Louie Lastic recorded me on voice memo and built a beat around my sample. And then I freestyled my verse and hook, sent it to Beam and he put a verse on it and we just put it out lol.

Did you ever imagine that after releasing a track on Soundcloud, that years later you’d be a Grammy-winning songwriter?

I imagined it because I manifested my entire life, I just didn’t know it would happen so soon.

Listening to your first EP Pulp, I can hear through the lyrics that you are an incredible storyteller. What does a writing session typically look like for you and other artists you work with?

Every session is different. I’m inspired a lot by movies. I have to be looking at something visually when I write, to take myself away from where I am physically…to the past, future, or somewhere that doesn’t exist yet.

Have any musicians you listened to growing up influenced your sound today?

Yes – Brandy, Andre 3000, Frank Ocean, Junie Morrison, Stevie Wonder

Do you have any words of wisdom to aspiring musicians?

Always be honest and always have fun. Learn as much as possible.

How are you handling your career in our world’s current state? Do you feel more productive in quarantine?

I think I’m just as productive in quarantine as before but it’s giving me the time to explore other creative outlets.

Lastly, where do you dream to see yourself musically in the next five years?

A better singer, A better songwriter, more vulnerable as an artist!
