On The Rise: Triple Charm

Unapologetically themselves, pop-trio Triple Charm continuously showcase their talents through their presence on social media. Through platforms like TikTok and Instagram, Triple Charm is working diligently on getting their voices heard across the world. The group has recently released their second single, “Rally Up,” which reinforces their drive to empower women. Hoping to encourage the youth to use their voices, Triple Charm is a triple threat.

We had the chance to sit down with Triple Charm and discuss their latest release, their musical influences, and what they have been working on.

For our readers who are unfamiliar with Triple Charm, take a second to introduce yourselves, and how you started this journey.
Triple Charm: Hi, I’m Amalia, I’m Raena, and I’m Gabriella, and we’re Triple Charm. We are all three sisters, and we recently released our latest single, “Rally Up!”

You’re all sisters, how did the conversation come about regarding pursuing music all together? What were the influences that led you to start this journey?
TC: Well, music has always been a huge part of our lives. We all three grew up as competitive dancers, and have been performing together since we were little. Amalia has been singing for the longest. She originally started singing
because she wanted to be on Broadway, and she was actually the one who inspired Gabby and I to start singing in the first place. When Gabby and I started singing, around 2 years ago, we decided it would be even more fun to do it together, and that’s when we formed Triple Charm.

Who inspires each of you within the music industry? Do you have anyone that you look up to?
TC: One of our big inspirations is Beyonce. Not only is she a great singer, but she also incorporates a lot of dance into what she does, much like we do. Some of our other musical inspirations are Lady Gaga, and Meghan Trainor.

The music video for “Rally Up” was released alongside the track. Watching the video, I could feel the power and unity radiating from behind the screen. What was it like shooting that video?
TC: Shooting the video was so much fun!! We shot it in February, in Santa Clarita California. Nayip Ramos was the director, and Ellen Kim was the Choreographer, both amazing! We had a group of dancers with us in the video, and the energy was insane! It really reminded us of our dance competition days, so we definitely had a lot of fun with that.

Your debut single, “Move On,” was released back in 2019. How does “Rally Up” differ from “Move On,” and how does it compare?
TC: Well at the heart of both songs is a positive message. We were inspired to write “Rally Up” because, very early on, we realized that nobody’s going to make our dreams a reality for us, we have to be the ones to do that. “Rally Up” has some K-Pop inspiration, and is really an anthem about taking initiative, and being unstoppable. Our first single, “Move On,” has a bit of a lighter feel. It is all about overcoming self-doubt, and not letting anyone bring you down.

How has the dynamic changed between the three of you as you continue on this journey? As sisters, I’m sure there’s times when arguments happen, how do you all work through that?
TC: Overtime we’ve all been able to develop the roles we play and how we can each bring something unique to the table. As far as working together, it’s always been so much fun. In our opinion, it’s easier to work with your siblings, because you can give to each other straight, and not be afraid to voice your opinion. You also know that no matter what, you will always have each others back. Of course, there are times when it’s difficult, but at the end of the day, we wouldn’t want it any other way!

What is the creative process behind your work? What usually comes first when making something new? A chord? A lyric? A melody?
TC: Normally the first thing we do is develop the concept of the song, and what we want the message to be. Then we’ll write some lyrics, and after that the rest usually just falls right into place. Recently we have been playing around with the process, and actually starting with the rhythm and melody. But it’s just a matter of trial and error, and we’re still figuring out what works best for us.

COVID-19 has really turned the world upside down. How have the three of you been keeping yourselves occupied?
TC: We’ve definitely been keeping busy! Throughout the whole quarantine, we were able to create a lot of content. Towards the beginning we focused more on TikTok, and recently we’ve switched our focus over to Instagram Reels. We’ve really been able to build our following, so Quarantine has definitely been very beneficial for us!

To finish this off, do you have any words for your fans, and do you have any words for people who have yet to discover Triple Charm?
TC: Well first we want to say thank you to everyone for all the support! We’re super excited to be on this journey with you all, and can’t wait for you to see what’s in store! To everyone reading this, just know that you can do anything
you set your mind to! “Don’t call it a dream, call it a plan,” that’s the motto we live by!
