On The Rise: Cloe Wilder

We’re beyond excited to welcome the amazing Cloe Wilder to our On The Rise series! At only 14 years old, Cloe is a force to be reckoned with! Her new song ‘You & Lonely’ just dropped too, This is just the start for her! Check out our interview below!

For readers who aren’t familiar with you and your music, can you share with us how you began your musical journey?

 I’ve always been obsessed with music. I was contacted by a producer when I was 11 and started writing when I was 12 🙂

Tell us more about your new single ‘You & Lonely‘!! What did your creative process look like for this track?

I absolutely love this song. I wrote it a little over a year ago and I’m still very proud of it. I had written it about the things I didn’t think about when letting go of people. I didn’t realize how lonely I would be. It was pretty therapeutic. I cried. I never cry during sessions.

Being so young, have you faced any challenges in your career so far? What advice would you give other young musicians?

I’ve surrounded myself with very supportive and respectful people, but not everybody’s like that. Not everyone takes me seriously, which I guess I understand, but it’s frustrating. My advice would honestly be to keep arguing and pushing. Sometimes, you have to make people listen.

Growing up who were some of your musical influences? Has your own style been influenced by them?

All of my music taste has come from my sister and my mom. I listened to a lot of late ’80s, early ’90s music, but the ’90s is really what stuck with me. My sister introduced me to Lana Del Rey. I owe so much of who I am as an artist to Lana’s music.

Do you enjoy taking part in artistic elements of your work such as photo shoots, cover art, aesthetics etc?

I LOVE ALL OF THAT. I think visuals help people understand!

What have you been working on lately? Can you share any upcoming projects with us?!

I’m really just fine-tuning this EP. It’s a really cool body of work. I can’t wait for you to hear it!

How have you been handling quarantine ?! Do you feel more or less creative staying at home?

I’ve actually been doing much better than I had expected. I’ve been recently quarantining in LA. All of my co-writers live in LA so they keep me inspired 🙂

Being 14, how do you juggle being a student on top of being a blossoming musician!?

 I don’t balance them that well, but I’m getting better! I just remember that I literally can’t do one thing without the other. They’re both important. 

What does your typical songwriting and production session look like?! What song has been your favorite to create?

The producer will lay down a rough track. Then, we all just mumble lyrics and melodies until we find something we like and take it from there.

Lastly, where do you envision yourself being musically in the next 5 years?

I really hope that I can tour in the next few years. I would also love to be signed to a major label.
