We recently had the chance to speak with Nashville’s newest rockstar, 16 year old Lindsey Lomis! Since the time of our chat Lindsey has done some amazing things! And is even in the process of getting a record deal!! We’re so happy for her! Read our conversation below!
What inspired you to want to become a musician?
I guess it was just in me from the start. I can’t say there was one thing in particular that inspired me – I’m inspired by people, artists, experiences, all of it. But I’ve been singing since I was a little kid and I knew that I would never be able to stop!
You recently released your Ep in January! It’s named chapter 1, can we expect another one soon?
I actually chose the name “Chapter I” because as a songwriter and artist I know I will continue to evolve. That was only the first chapter of my story. As I’m growing, it’s easy to move on from certain sounds/songs quickly, so the title “Chapter I” is just a reminder of where I was at that time. And yes, you can expect new music soon 🙂
Take us through your songwriting process!
When I first started writing, it was always solo and I usually start on my guitar with chords then build out the melody and lyrics over them. Now I am getting to co-write with many different people and I absolutely love it. The process is different with every session and I’m learning so much!
What has it been like to be receiving such positive feedback from the public and even other musicians!?!
I am SO grateful for all the support. When other musicians reach out it is so validating. But my favorite is definitely all the amazing people doing covers of my songs from all over the world – that’s just crazy!
You opened for Bruno major in nyc a few months back! What was that experience like for you?
That was such an incredible experience for me! Bruno, his manager Sam, and their whole team were absolutely wonderful to me. It was truly one of my favorite performances. The audience was amazing; I really feed off the energy of the crowd when I play, so it made it extra special. That is definitely a show I will never forget!!
As a young artist, what are your fears and goals for the future?
To be honest, I don’t have many fears within my music. I feel like it’s important to be fearless and just go for it. The opportunities I have had so far are amazing – it’s really worth taking the risks. I have worked to surround myself with a team that wants to foster my artistic freedom and people who will help me stay true to myself and I’m very lucky for that.
If you could collaborate with one artist who would it be?
Wow that’s so hard. I have so many influences that I admire and respect and it’s crazy to think that I would get to collab with ANY of them! I feel like I could learn so much from someone like John Mayer. I can imagine hanging in a studio with him, learning guitar licks, writing, and production. He seems so authentic and laid back, I can see him giving me some important advice and words of wisdom haha! And it would just be fun since he’s hilarious 🙂
did you ever expect that making covers in your bedroom would take you this far?
When I first started making covers I was definitely nervous to post them. When I started my account it was really just for my friends. I hoped that eventually my videos would reach people to share my love of music with. It’s so crazy how far it’s come!
Many musicians have spoken on this topic,Do you believe that surrounding yourself with other talented artists helps with your creativity?
Absolutely. In a way I feel like Nashville raised me. It’s music community has been so supportive even since I was a little kid. I also went to Nashville School of the Arts for my first two years of high school. Being in a community of kids who are passionate about their art was extremely inspiring. Now I’m writing with other writers/adults everyday and am really finding my core people!
Do you see yourself going on a headlining tour in the future??
That’s an absolute DREAM. Performing is my favorite part of all this. I sometimes feel a little nervous at first, but when I start playing it gives me a feeling like ‘this is what it’s all about’ and just feels so right. Then seeing people connect with the music is a whole other incredible feeling. So I can definitely see myself headlining at some point, but I would also love to start as a supporting act opening for others!
How do you find the balance between being a teenager and going to school but also being a musician and playing gigs?
It can be a challenge. I missed a lot of school last year for my music. Luckily my school was supportive and I kept up with my work, but this year I am starting online school for more flexibility. My best friend Harper really helps me stay balanced as well – I can talk to her about anything and also just be my goofy self haha
What’s next for you?
I’m actually in LA right now doing some writing and recording sessions, as well as business meetings!! I’m in the process of signing with a major label (YAY – more info soon!). It’s also amazing to put together my team – I’ve connected with some wonderful people who care about me as a person as well as an artist. I’m so grateful and excited for what’s to come!
Lastly do you have a message for your supporters??
I love you guys. Seriously, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. It’s so rewarding (and crazy) to see my music reach people from all around the world. I wouldn’t be able to do all this without you guys. I feel so lucky for every one of you and the support you give me!
