An interview with Milkk.

We recently had the chance to speak with rising pop band MILKK, all about their music, their goals and even their live shows. Check out our conversation below!

What has been the most rewarding part of getting to be in this band ?

It’s very special and important to see the real-life effects that our songs have had on people’s lives. I don’t think I ever thought it would mean as much to others as it means to me, and I definitely didn’t think that it would sometimes mean even more to others than it probably means to me. I’m glad that we’ve built something that people feel at home with.

Out all the music you’ve put out, what’s been you’re favorite and why?

For me personally, “90’s Baby” off of ‘HEADRUSH’ is a really important song to me. It’s more or less an introduction into my own head, from every angle, and is somewhat of my life’s story condensed into a two minute song. I didn’t know it could be done, but it has a lot of power.

A fan whats the biggest difference in your opinion between the previous EP’s and the album, emotionally and musically?

The EP’s (especially ‘Sad Girls’) were more hypothetical in nature. Most of them weren’t direct experience and were writing from different people’s perspective. When I picked up writing for ‘HEADRUSH’ and everything I’ve been working on since, I realized that I wasn’t satisfied writing about “whatever.” I needed to get my own things off my own chest. And I needed to say them in a way that other people weren’t saying them.

Your sound is very unique, did you ever expect when you became a band that your music would be so well accepted and loved by so many?

Short answer: not at all.

A fan wants to know is there any member of the band who enjoys contributing to song writing more?

I (Pat) tend to be the core songwriter. And then once a song is laid out, we come together and see what we could change to make it as best as it can be.

A fan wants to know who’s your biggest musical inspiration as a band??

MILKK.

Can you take us through your typical song writing process?

No song ever comes about in the same way. So, there’s not really a “typical” way. Everyone has different methods and preferences, and then even within an individual, that process can change at any time. Lately, it’s been everything from a short melody popping into my head and building an entire song around that to watching a film and a whole piece popping into my head inspired by it to building a beat and then just saying whatever feels good over it. There’s no real structure.

What is your dream collaboration, either individually or as a band?

I just want to work with as many rappers as possible, honestly.

What has been your favorite part of curating a live show?

It’s way more important than most people realize. Obviously, the set needs to have a certain flow to it. You don’t wanna go all out for the first half and then have 0 energy the second. You wanna create a sort of roller coaster for people to ride as they watch you, both psychologically and emotionally. It’s also really important who you are playing with, how many people are playing, the length people are playing, etc. You want everything to create the best experience possible for the show-goer.

What’s your goal for the next 5 years?

We just wanna reach as many people as we can and write better and better songs every time. As long as we do that, I think we’ve done our job.

Lastly, do you have a message for your supporters?

Thanks for believing in us, and in me. Couldn’t do this any other way, and I mean that
